About the Breeder

My name is Dena Sweeney and I am located in Southern PA (Delaware County) close to the borders of Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland. I breed our flock at my home, in a small closed, closely monitored aviary with special avian lighting, air cleaners, humidifiers and dehumidifiers (for different seasons). Our flock is fed a well balanced diet of Roudybush and Zupreem pellets, a premium seed mix, veggies, fresh home sprouted beans and seed, and our home made bird muffins. The conures also enjoy a warm cooked bean and pasta meal. We wean all of our babies onto the same diet. Our parent breeding stock are vaccinated for polyoma and the cockatiels are routinely treated for Giardia (parasites) so they do not pass this onto their young. We pull the babies at 2 weeks of age to start the hand feeding and handling process. My husband and children, and their friends and visitors help with socializing the babies. We have a very hardy and healthy, well established breeding stock and do not participate in brokerage, trades or pull from anyone elses nest. All of our birds are bred and raised in our home. This helps keep our flock clean and healthy of outside disease. And we have had our breeder pairs for years. In keeping our flock small, we can ensure we raise very happy, healthy and well socialized babies that we can be sure to give individualized attention to. Too many times I've seen breeders overrun with way too many birds, and more than they can handle which trickles down to the babies not getting the attention they need to thrive and bond easily to their new owners (not to mention disease and neglect). Sure you may get a better deal, but you also "get what you pay for". Birds are very intellectual, wonderful companions and that is what we raise, we want the experience to be equally satisfying for the baby as well as their new family. We are proud of our babies and keep in touch with many of our clients (and friends) who have purchased our babies.
